About Katy:
Katy joined the ITS Midlands team in 2011 as an Arts Therapist. She is a fully qualified Dramatherapist, graduating from the University of Derby in 2011. Katy uses highly creative and innovative Arts Therapies techniques within her practice to promote communication and exploration of feelings, emotions and experiences.
Katy has experience in working in a wide range of client groups in various educational and health settings, specialist schools and mental health centres. She also has extensive experience in delivering individual sessions within the home environment. Katy works in a multi-disciplinary manner ensuring liaison with family, carers, teachers, fellow therapists and others involved in the individual's care.
In 2010, Katy spent some time in South Africa providing creative workshops to primary aged children living in underprivileged and HIV affected areas. Within these groups Katy provided an environment in which children could explore their experiences which included gang-related crime. Whilst working on the project Katy was able to hone her skills in working around language barriers and developing non-verbal workshops whilst promoting communication and relationship building.
Katy has particular interest in using story, play and masks along with other dramatic tools in the therapeutic process.
She believes that working creatively can be hugely beneficial to the development and general wellbeing of the individual. She works largely with children and young adults but is happy to offer sessions to adults also.
