About Jo:
Jo qualified in 2005 with a BSC honours degree in Physiotherapy, and has since worked in the NHS and as a private practitioner. She specialises in paediatrics and has a keen interest in neurological conditions in adults and paediatrics. Jo studied in Sheffield and was awarded the Hallam Award on graduation for her voluntary work with children. She enabled children from deprived areas to experience different sporting opportunities, whilst training alongside sports stars to give them the drive to use their talents.
Alongside ITS, Jo works for Leicester City NHS as a specialist paediatric physiotherapist. She also works with adults as a private practitioner, dealing with neurological and musculoskeletal disorders/injuries, and workstation assessments.
Jo has experienced working with a wide variety of disorders such as Cerebral Palsy; Muscular Dystrophies; Global/Severe/Gross Motor Developmental Delay; Development and Coordination Difficulties; Dyspraxia; Syndromes; Stokes; Parkinsons; Dementia; Back Pain; Fractures; Orthopaedics; Cardiac Rehab and Postural Management. She also runs an orthotic clinic alongside trained Orthotists for lower limb problems.
Jo is a qualified Bobath Physiotherapist having trained at the London Bobath Centre, where she gained distinctions in exams held there. She also uses NDT techniques and others as appropriate. Jo was previously qualified as a Lifeguard and will willingly attend the gym or swimming pool with patients. This can enhance therapy programmes and give Jo the opportunity to provide further advice and guidance on activities of daily living.
Jo takes a functional approach to exercise and rehab, encouraging every new movement to be put into a functional activity. She works closely with family, carers and other members of the team to ensure the best care possible is received, and to ensure effective communication between all parties is maintained.
Jo partakes in training in many different areas to ensure her skills are kept up to date and evidenced based. She has also given talks to non-professionals to give advice and information on the benefit of physiotherapy and postural management to children with complex needs. Jo has had training in sensory integration, signs and symbols, dysphagia, ADHD, austim and myofascial release.
Jo is a hardworking, motivated, friendly, professional individual, who puts the care of her patient first and foremost. She is happy to discuss any Physiotherapy queries you may have.
