About Amy:
Amy qualified as a speech and language therapist in 2001. She is a highly skilled paediatric speech therapist having worked with a wide range of different client groups. She has considerable experience in assessing, diagnosing and treating children aged from 0-18 years with difficulties ranging from mild speech sound delay to those with profound and complex learning disabilities. As well as supporting children with communication difficulties, Amy has also completed further training to work with those who have eating and drinking difficulties.
Amy enjoys working with children of all ages and has a particular interest working with preschool children. Another key area of interest and specialism Amy has is in the area of complex needs. Amy is skilled in working with individuals with autistic spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, genetic syndromes and learning disabilities. Amy is currently working towards an MSc in Profound and Complex Learning Disability.
Amy has spent many years working in multi-agency contexts including assessment/diagnostic clinics, early years settings, mainstream schools, special schools and Children’s Centres. She has experience in writing joint professional reports and therapy plans.
Amy has delivered training jointly with other professionals from health and education. She is passionate about working in this multi-disciplinary way.
Amy took a lead in rolling out the ICAN Early Talk programme within Lewisham. This provided a partnership programme aiming to develop early years practitioners’ skills and knowledge of communication development and disability through advisory support, accreditation of settings and training.
Amy is keen to make therapy targets accessible and easy to incorporate into the child’s daily routine either at home, nursery or school.
Amy has worked with many bilingual and multilingual families, conducting assessment and therapy through using an interpreter or specialist co-worker.
Amy enjoys seeing children both individually and within a group. She has considerable experience devising and conducting group therapy.
Amy is responsive to the individual needs of the child and family she is working with.
Amy can see children during weekdays and at the weekends.
