I.T.S are an approved tester for Daisy Kit's resource developed and produced by Kate Brophy BSc. (hons) MRCSLT MASLTIP HPC Reg. and Natasha Everitt

As you will have read our team have had some fantastic results using colorful semantics with a range of client groups.

Daisy Kits have developed 2 resource packs STEMS (Structure To Enable Meaningful Sentences) and More STEMs.

Here are Natasha and Kate's comments about their packs:
  • Devised for children needing Speech and Language Therapy (Colourful Semantics).
  • Develops spoken language and literacy.
  • Can help with a wide range of communication difficulties, including language delay/ disorder, speech difficulties, Dyspraxia, physical disabilities (e.g.Cerebral Palsy), Autism, and Learning Disability.
  •  Teachers also use it for children with dyslexia, ADHD, children learning English as a second language and for children who rarely speak.
  •   Contains ready-made materials and easy to follow instructions for the various activity packs within it.
  • Can be used individually, in pairs or in group.
  • Begins with picture description, then moves on to activities to practice using the sentence structures socially, in real situations.
What our therapists say about the STEMs kits:

I have used STEMs  and More STEMs with children of a range of ages.  With pre school and primary aged children, the kits work really well to create simple rules and structure to sentence building.  Before you know it the child is able to join 4 + key words together as well as the smaller joining words. It is methodical and the resources are really clear and motivating.  There are plenty of activities which have been resourced ready to play.  These packs will save you hours, sticking laminating and cutting out pictures to support the curriculum.  Therefore your time can be best spent working with the child.

I have also used these packs with children on the Autistic spectrum very successfully.  The students love the predictability and the methodically to this approach and the photos are clear and concrete.

I have seen children in a language unit with sever dyspraxia learn to read and write using stems prior to them being able to express sentences clearly.  This has been great to see as it means that grammar and syntax can be developed despite speech sound difficulties.

I would highly recommend these packs to teaching staff in pre-school, infant, junior and secondary.  Parents can utilise the resources with ease too.  Do ask your speech and language therapist to help personalise the work to your child and their current levels.
