We are pleased to provide contacts for our team of associated Physiotherapists . Our colleagues from nearby Physiotherapy practices are familiar with our therapists and can help you to gain a full understanding of the clients sensory, physical and equipment needs within a clear timescale.

Physiotherapy

 

Many of our children and young people require support from an PhysioTherapist to help maximise their physical, mental and emotional development.

 

Physiotherapists can support young people who have;

  • Minor or severe, short or longterm diffiuclties and can affect a child's ability to move and function.
  • Learning Difficulties with motor impairment – E.G Autism
  • Neurological conditions - E.g. Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Developmental Delay, Aquired Brain Injury.
  • Dyspraxia - Developmental Coordination Disorder, Clumsy Child Syndrome.
  • Poor Balance and Co-ordination
  • Respiratory conditions - E.g. Asthma, Cystic Fibrosis.
  • Orthopaedic conditions - Acute and long standing, rehabilitation following trauma. E.g. fractures and head injuries, knee pain, back pain.
  • Posture and gait problems E.G Toe walking, Flat feet
  • Juvenile Arthritis
  • Obesity  

Physiotherapists can support adults clients who have;

  • Neurological conditions, ranging from CVA, muscular dystrophies, neuropathies, head-injury, MS, Parkinson’s disease, tumours and other rarer neurological diseases
  • Difficulties with their feelings and anxieties during rehab

Support from a Physio therapist helps staff to;

  • Identify the needs of young people and adults's with specific conditions
  • Understand a range of therapeutic approaches such as Bobath Neuro developmental Therapy, splinting.
  • Ensure that the educational and social tasks offer opportunity for physical practice to increase range of movement.
  • Promote children and adults's participation in hobbies and other interests by reducing barriers in accessing.
  • Make accessible all aspects of an educational curriculum.


Jane Hargrave

Jane has over 20yrs experience as a Physiotherapist, the last 12yrs, being as a private practitioner specialising primarily in adult neurological rehab.
Having trained in Manchester and achieved a Graduate Diploma in Physiotherapy, Jane then worked at the LRI, before moving to Stoke Mandeville Hospital, to specialise in neurology and spinal injuries, then transferring to Milton Keynes and finally back to Leicestershire.
 
Jane has worked in both the acute and longer term rehab, working with a wide variety of neurological conditions, ranging from CVA, muscular dystrophies, neuropathies, head-injury, MS, Parkinson’s disease, tumours and other rarer neurological diseases.
 
She currently provide home visits for clients throughout Leicestershire, as well as holding an MS and a Parkinson’s group and working for Leonard Cheshire.
 
Jane has trained in and predominately use Bobath techniques, but also uses PNF, Margaret Johnstone and other techniques as appropriate.
 
She can take client’s to the gym if required, as well as assisting with swimming and other functional/rehab activities, like walking to the local shops etc.
 
Jane therefore takes a very functional approach to exercise and rehab, encouraging every new movement to be put into a functional activity. She maintains close liaison with family, carers and other members of the team to ensure continuity of functional goals etc.
 
Jane recently trained in the use of FES (functional electrical stimulation) and the new Saebo hand rehab system, particularly useful for those recovering from strokes or head-injuries.
 
She has a wide knowledge of splinting for lower limb problems as well as a sound knowledge of advice on wheelchairs and pressure relieving cushions.
 
Jane has also recenlty completed a year of a counselling skills course, which has helped me to assist clients with their feelings and anxieties during rehab.
 
Jane has seen client’s from through a timescale of one session through to 6yrs, for ongoing management and advice.
 
Jane is very motivated, self driven, hard working, with a drive to succeed in achieving the highest potential for her client’s.

Jo Cotton       

Jo qualified in 2005 with a BSC honours degree in Physiotherapy, and has since worked in the NHS and as a private practitioner. She specialises in paediatrics and has a keen interest in neurological conditions in adults and paediatrics. Jo studied in Sheffield and was awarded the Hallam Award on graduation for her voluntary work with children. She enabled children from deprived areas to experience different sporting opportunities, whilst training alongside sports stars to give them the drive to use their talents.
 
Alongside ITS, Jo works for Leicester City NHS as a specialist paediatric physiotherapist. She also works with adults as a private practitioner, dealing with neurological and musculoskeletal disorders/injuries, and workstation assessments.
 
Jo has experienced working with a wide variety of disorders such as Cerebral Palsy; Muscular Dystrophies; Global/Severe/Gross Motor Developmental Delay; Development and Coordination Difficulties; Dyspraxia; Syndromes; Stokes; Parkinsons; Dementia; Back Pain; Fractures; Orthopaedics; Cardiac Rehab and Postural Management. She also runs an orthotic clinic alongside trained Orthotists for lower limb problems.
 
Jo is a qualified Bobath Physiotherapist having trained at the London Bobath Centre, where she gained distinctions in exams held there. She also uses NDT techniques and others as appropriate. Jo was previously qualified as a Lifeguard and will willingly attend the gym or swimming pool with patients. This can enhance therapy programmes and give Jo the opportunity to provide further advice and guidance on activities of daily living.
 
Jo takes a functional approach to exercise and rehab, encouraging every new movement to be put into a functional activity. She works closely with family, carers and other members of the team to ensure the best care possible is received, and to ensure effective communication between all parties is maintained.
 
Jo partakes in training in many different areas to ensure her skills are kept up to date and evidenced based. She has also given talks to non-professionals to give advice and information on the benefit of physiotherapy and postural management to children with complex needs. Jo has had training in sensory integration, signs and symbols, dysphagia, ADHD, austim and myofascial release.
 
Jo is a hardworking, motivated, friendly, professional individual, who puts the care of her patient first and foremost. She is happy to discuss any Physiotherapy queries you may have.
